Hi, my name is Katie Dennis Gunnerson, thanks for visiting my site. I’m an information professional and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Information School (iSchool).
I graduated from the University of Kansas with my B.A. in English and a minor in Latin American Studies. After earning my undergraduate degree, I worked for five years in a variety of fields, primarily banking, natural foods, customer service and libraries, until beginning graduate school. I chose UW-Madison’s Information School because of their forward thinking, diverse, and challenging courses, as well as their focus on teaching students how to successfully lead organizations into the future and navigate change. I received my Master of Library & Information Studies in May 2017.
I am interested in and have experience with information in all stages—how it’s produced, presented, organized, managed, accessed, utilized, consumed, understood, taught, and transformed into knowledge. I am always learning about new tools, formats, technologies, ways to provide services, finding solutions and challenging myself. At UW-Madison, I took a well-rounded set of courses and I continue to develop my skills in different areas of the information profession. My strengths and areas of interest are:
- Archives, Special Collections, Digital Preservation
- Project Management and Workflow Design
- Metadata and Taxonomies
- ILS, Database, and Digital Asset Management
Other than work, I love hanging out with my spouse, my cat, reading, writing, teaching myself new art forms (currently working on sewing) going to shows, antiquing, building things, spending time with our parents, grandparents, siblings and large extended family, and turning the mundane into adventure.
The black and white photo at the top of this page is of my great-great grandparents. I come from a long line of hardworking men and women who have preserved and told our stories. I am honored to be a first generation college graduate and the first formally trained archivist in our family. I look forward to using my education and skills to continue their work.
